Part 3 of 3

Rep. Caltrone left the Capitol by a back elevator and made his way to the parking structure. Although he usually loved the quick pace of D.C. at this hour, the day had left him feeling drained. His House committee had been the lucky one to receive the Senate’s immigration bill, a mess if he’d ever seen one. The committee had spen three hours that afternoon debating which portion of the bill was the most poorly-worded. Personally, he couldn’t decide between the no amnesty provision or the huge increase in border patrol spending. Despite the need for reform, he knew there was no way the more liberal House would approve the measure.
