pride

Yesterday I helped man a booth for Kentuckians Vote for Animals (KVFA) at the Lexington Pride Festival, an annual gay pride event.

Although at first it seemed a bit of an odd venue for outreach for an animal organization, it makes sense in retrospect. At a time when basic civil rights have been extended to most groups in this country, gays and animals still have a way to go. Not to equate human and animal rights, but, until gay people have the same rights as others and animals are legally protected from torture, abuse and neglect in all fifty states, they will share a common ground.

On the plus side, several new members joined KFVA and made donations to the group yesterday. They also had the nicest, cleanest portapotties I’ve ever seen! So I think the Pride Festival is aptly named.
